Advantages of DWC hydroponics system:

In DWC (Deep Water Culture or Direct Water Culture) hydroponic systems, plant roots grow suspended in a well-oxygenated nutrient solution. In this soilless growing method, “deep” means the roots are deeply submerged in water.
There are many benefits to growing in a hydroponic system for deep water culture. Plants grow faster, healthier, and produce higher yields. Plant roots are always submerged in the nutrient solution, so the nutrients are constantly oxygenated. Individual plants are grown in separate containers, so each plant benefits from the nutrients for itself.

How to use the DWC system:

A 16cm mesh pot sits in a hole in the lid of a bucket where a plant support medium, such as expanded clay, is placed. The system is filled with a nutrient solution, the water level in the bucket should not reach the mesh pot, but it should submerge the plant roots. The amount of oxygen the plant receives is the main factor in DWC systems and makes this method successful. Since the plant roots are constantly submerged in water, it is important to use air stones and an aerator to saturate the nutrient solution with oxygen. Air stones create bubbles and they increase the dissolved oxygen content in the solution, which allows the plant to absorb more nutrients.
