Plant Pots: A Place for Healthy Root Growth
When growing indoors in a grow box, choosing the right pots plays an important role in the development of healthy roots and, therefore, strong and productive plants. The right pot allows the roots to expand sufficiently and ensures that the soil in which it is located can store enough water.
Therefore, plant pots should not be too small or too large. On the other hand, repotting each time puts stress on the plants, so it should not be done too often.
Pots from 1 to 5 liters are recommended for growing plants. For the growth and flowering phase, pots from 7 to 15 liters are used, depending on the variety grown and the area or height of the grow box.
The size of the planting area is crucial
Growing method and the size of the growing area also play a role in choosing pots. Short-flowering autoflowering plants can be grown in larger pots than long-lived photoperiod plants. It is also important that the size, and therefore the number of plants and pots, match the size of the grow room or grow container. You don’t want too many plants in a grow box that steal each other’s light, and you don’t want expensive lighting shining into nothing. To make the most of the space, square pots are preferable to round ones in grow tents.
Plastic or smart pots
Regular plastic pots are naturally attractive due to their low purchase price, ease of use and maintenance. These pots are perforated so that excess water can drain. It is best to place the pots on suitable stands.
On the other hand, fabric flower pots or plant bags have the advantage that roots do not have to grow in circles due to the permeable wall of the pot, and pruning creates a denser root system overall.
Innovative pots for professional growers
Innovative air pots provide optimal oxygen supply, perfect water flow and significantly improved nutrient absorption. The cylindrical wall of the pot is made up of ridges that form air holes to the outside. The roots are naturally pruned, and the roots become much denser and better able to absorb nutrients.
Be careful when watering. Air pots dry out a little faster, so beginners in particular tend to overwater the soil.
Hydroponic and aeroponic systems
For growing in hydro or aero systems, we have special pots with a grid filled with clay granulate or mineral wool blocks. These pots provide an optimal supply of water and air and are ideal for growing and rooting.
